A distinct lack of posts…
Posted in Uncategorized on February 15th, 2009 by Eric – Be the first to commentI apologize, I haven’t been as diligent as I would like this week. In addition to being an incredibly busy week at work, my school and home ventures have been sucking up a larger amount of time than before.
I’ve finally fixed the situation with my home network, which never worked properly a day in it’s life. Now successfully networked after fighting a battle with network protocols not loading, the network node still refuses to play nicely on my XP machine, which still refuses to work the right way. Alas, everything connected I can share printers and map network drives and all the machines in my workgroup show up.
Windows 7 is playing nicely with XP and Vista. Not a surprise there. What I did manage to do was to run a virtual machine of Ubuntu with VMWare player on it. Ran into a few bugs, but can’t ask for much when I don’t know much about virtual machines.
Tuesday will be more networking as my wireless router arrives. I will be setting it up, hopefully as securely as possible with WPA2 encryption, IP and MAC address filtering. All of that should make for a busy afternoon or possibly couple of afternoons. It does crack me up that they now have wireless and bluetooth printers. Simply sharing printers with host computer nets you the same result, provided you have a host computer. It’s been my experiance that most people have more than one computer per household.
Again, apologize about the lack of posting, and the discussion about that “other” networking.
Have a good weekend.
